Footprints in the Sand

Footprints in the Sand

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

Footprints In The Sand

A poem read of footprints

Deepened in the sand

Told of a brand new creature

Being carried across this land

A heavy weight He carried

Lifting my bruised and bloody feet

Into His healing arms

And my healing was complete

He didn’t have to lift my burden

For it was mine to bear

He didn’t have to soften my way

His love He didn’t have to share

Still He lifted me into His arms

And carried me with ease

He soothed my furrowed brow

And my fear He did appease

The many steps He carried me

Down this pathway I call my life

Too weak to stand

He soothed away the strife

Now I look behind me

As I stand on heaven’s shore

Those deepened footprints

Is from an opened door

He knocked so many times

But I didn’t heed the call

Until my life turned into turmoil

And then I surrendered all

I thank God that Jesus waited

For me to unlock the door

Instead of seeing footprints

My feet would be cut and sore

Now with soft smooth feet

I kneel before the throne

I praise Jesus and rejoice

I claimed salvation for my own

My voice is joined together

With the angelic choir

My eternity secure

I’ve completed my last hour

If you look behind and only see one set

Of footprints in the sand

Know that you’re being carried

Towards the Promise land

Amazing. I like this poem, its message as well as it's rhythm and other elements I don't know the names for. Thanks for writing this, it was a pleasure to read.

Very beautifully written! I read a poem similar to this, but in the same title. Your version is more elaborate; I love this poem, it truly reminds a person to have faith in God, because he will never leave us. And though we sometimes forget him, Jesus will always be ready to carry us in our times of need. Again, beautifully written. The rhyme was a bit wavering in a few lines, but the overall poem was great!
