Hero of War

Hero of War

A Poem by Deepshikha
"

When you fight, do you even consider what's happening, oh Hero?

"

Hero of war,

what are you?

You act for the state;

You fight for my freedom.

Oh, hero of war,

How many have you killed?

How many children?

How many little dreams?

My hero of war,

how can you stand the weight?

Do you know you're just a criminal,

Just a player in petty games?

Dear hero of war,

I beseech thee!

Accept what you have done,

Don't give in to the state.

Hero of war,

Forget it all!

Run away,

Before it's too late.

Well...it doesn't rhyme, for one thing...
Anyway, I mean no disrespect to the troops of any country that are currently fighting. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for risking their lives so that people everywhere don't have to worry about psychopaths with power.
Kinda sorta inspired by "Hero of War" by Rise Against.

When I saw the title I thought rise against, and the poem definitely plays along with the same beat as the song. You make your point well, and I find it interesting how you jump from them being a hero of war to my hero of war, and I feel that that phrase adds a good bit of weight to the poem.

I really enjoy the song, so I definitely wanted to check this out. Most people interpret that song not as dissing soldiers but as revealing the realities of the horrors encountered in war. It is true that some people in the military are bloodthirsty and can't wait to get their first kill, but I believe they are a minority. You chose a very prominent topic to write on this time. It is simple but approached in a very mature and insightful manner. I hope no one gives you any crap about it.
