Despair is the bird with song

“Despair” is the bird with song ---
That flutters gently down ---
And casts shadows so very long ---
And always seeks --- to own ---

And darkness --- in its Heart --- is seen ---
And deep must be the dread ---
That dares sing off the awful Sheen
That left so many dead ---

I've seen it in the brightest eyes ---
And on that happy Face ---
Yet --- never --- in so many Tries,

It turned its head --- to fly.

Author's Note

Another English assignment, wherein we had to look at Emily Dickinson's style and write a poem based on "Hope is the thing with feathers" using either truth, trust, or despair. (or summat like that.)
My rating of it is pretty meh.
