The Shadows Have Passed!

The shadows have passed

The shadows have passed

Oh! How the shadows have passed!

 

Where there was once tremors

Where happiness could not last

The shadows have passed! The shadows have passed!

All because we prevail at last

 

The sun shines once more with ease

And the shadows no longer cast

The warmth is joyous and the grasses soft

All because we hung him from the mast

 

The shadows have passed

The shadows have passed

Oh! How the shadows have passed!

 

He was the shadow that trailed us about

Though he was an outcast

He took over our hearts and souls

Broke us and held us steadfast

 

First, we nary fought against him

And he did not lambast

But when he tried to take our children

Then the shadows were cast

 

Our hearts were precious

And our views only miscast

We would not stand idly

And could not let tortures amass

 

The shadows have passed

The shadows have passed

Oh! How the shadows have passed!

 

We fought and fought

The blood-rivers were vast

We killed our own in the darkest nights

Yet our victories did not come to last

 

But we kept our hopes and hearts

Though in shadows they were cast

And fought until his end

Until we poisoned his repast

 

The shadows have passed

The shadows have passed

Oh! How the shadows have passed!

Our only success

And it then came to pass!

Our prayers were heard; our children came back

His shadows lifting at last

 

He lives no longer but in memory he stays

His body sails, tied to a mast

Our fortunes are back and our sun shines once more

And we are returned at last

This is a poem wrote after a long hiatus. A hiatus from poetry, that is. D:
