Excited for Fall

Oh, how excited I am for fall

Hot chocolate by the fire
In cozy warm PJs

Red and yellow leaves
Turning crunchy brown from fresh green
Twist and twirl as they fall from trees

He looks at me when I look at him

Giving thanks for the man I've been given
He hugs me tight
So thankful for the life I'm livin

Kissing sweet candy lullabies
Under the full moons shine
Trick or treat but don't tell some lies
I'm so glad my man is mine
Curlicues on the pumpkin tops

We search the aisles while we Christmas shop
Serving dinners with pumpkin pies

Author's Note

I had a rebound boyfriend in late summer 2017, and I had written this poem. I would like to say that this is an extremely over-optimistic view of my relationship at the time and I think I wrote it to combat and cope with how unhappy I really was and how much I truly missed my ex. It looks as if I tried to make it about the rebound but in reality I couldn't get my mind off my ex.
