I have been thinking recently that despite all the things that make us cooooool, our jet planes, our mobiles, our digital teeth, our ereaders, the stents in our heart valves, we are actually absolutly the same as the peasants you see in medeival pictures by the Dutch masters ... in essence we are all of us always the same. Our essence never changes despite the wrapping of the moment. Remember that pillock dude who proclaimed 'the end of history'? What an idiot he now seems. He too fell into the trap of thinking our age to be something sepial, different. Big mistake. it is also wrong to think of those in the past as lame. There lives were lived just as passionately and intensely as ours, moreso perhaps. Maybe they were closer to life because they were closer to death and the essentials in some way. Maybe all our materialism removes us from Life and Nature, actually diminishes our lives. Maybe cool is, erm, deeply shallow. And I did have a larff thinking about it! I like nothing better than to diss cool. Now how cool is that?
Though I may be young if we ever had the capabilities to build a time machine I would love to go back into time to the days of the 50's 60's and 70's and before. I think it would be an adventure.
