the cold

the cold

A Poem by Nicole Sullivan

the cold quivers my lips
I belonged to you for so long
the ice crunches beneath my feet
I miss your arms around me
the snow melts and spring comes
Do you tell her what you told me?
flowers bloom and die again
The ache lessens every day you are gone
summer dawns and sun bakes my paleness
I have changed so much since we last spoke
the glistening of the ocean calms my fears
I know our silence is irreparable
fall has fallen on me and cold breeze sets in
Smiling comes effortlessly
as the leaves change like my innermost soul
I become free
