Goa Glory

Goa Glory

A Story by Nidhi Patel
"

I had never visited Goa since I born. But, at the age of 21, I visited Goa for the first time. It was the fun trip and also I have never written a short story. The experience made me write the story.

"
On 1st January 2019, in the evening around 7:30 pm, Bhumi, Dhriti and I were going
to Naroda by hiring a cab. Bhumi is my elder sister. Dhriti is my sweet little niece who
is two and half years old and has a twin sister named Dhyana. We kept Dhyana at my
home with my parents because we had decided to take Dhriti with us in the trip. After
an hour around we reached at Naroda at my brother in-law’s house. I had a sleep of
that one night at his house due to next day flight. We woke up in the morning and
finished our morning routines. We had a flight at 2’o clock in the noon, for that, we
rushed to the Ahmedabad airport early at 1’o clock. All the pre-procedures were done
and it’s time to fly away from the Ahmedabad to Goa.
We reached Goa around by 3:30 pm and now we were going to resort which was prebooked in Calangute. I was thinking that traffic would be lesser than Ahmedabad but
it’s not like that. We had our room by 7:30 pm. We just put our luggage into the roomthe main thing stomach was eager to eat food at that time. Luckily, the beach was at
the walking distance of around 2-3 minutes from the resort. The footsteps were started
towards the beach, the eyes were curious to see the sea. It was surprising to feel each
moment there because I had gone to Goa for the very first time. We walked until we
reach to beach. There was many beach shacks, bars and restaurants. We sat at the left
first shack. What I found interesting was the exciting atmosphere due to music, lights
and- the infinite sea at the night. We ordered food and drinks after some time. The
most enjoyed thing by me was the music- Punjabi songs mostly! I love Punjabi songs.
Also, English and Spanish songs were played on demand. Meanwhile, Dhriti had so
much fun in the sand, she played with her cute little hand, just like it wasn’t the endfor her. Baby had also danced with cute steps and we were watching her so happy
ever before. Time passed so fast and it was time to go to resort back and have deep
sleep so that next day might go well. But the next day, it was my brother in-law,
Saurabh’s birthday and we celebrated in a room with pastries and cake. Then? Then
what! Bed was calling me: ‘Nidhi! Have some sleep now.’
Next day,3rd January 2019, we refreshed ourselves and took breakfast. Morning was
about to end, and the noon was about to begin, and there we were going to Baga beach
by hired two wheelers. I was gone Goa with my sister and brother in-law, so
apparently it was boring to ride a vehicle lonely without any partner- don’t assume
life partner here! Baga beach was tremendous, yeah, because it is very big and famous.
We seated there had some juice after that clicked photos and I was looking for a ticket
counter for jet ski- tried first time. I felt I was going to die today, obviously panicked
but after finishing jet ski ride, beating speed of my heart was at another level. I was
happy to do that scary but exciting experience. My sister had also a same ride but after
I had. Then we went to resort back for taking rest. Around by 5:30, again we rushed
to the beach, Candolim. The sun was setting almost. As soon as possible I captured
the salmon coloured horizon of Candolim beach. Then we took pictures of ours with
selfie and rear camera. Now the sun was set in the west, but we weren’t. we went to
the main Calangute beach, but we found it boring, so we shopped some things from
Calangute main market and returned to the shack at beach near our resort-where we
had already spent last night. Again, same atmosphere, same food and may be different
drinks this time. Even the people who was working at that shack became familiar with
us due to second visit. I loved that place, peace wasn’t there apparently but it was
there in my mind at some point of time. Listening to our favourite songs is the best
therapy of relaxation. That night ended for us and still I had to keep alert myself up
to 12:00 am because next day, it was again birthday of my bestie, Rajal, was in
Ahmedabad. I had to wish her because wishing a birthday to your bestie is the ritual
itself. I wished her late night sitting in the balcony of the room with cold breeze after
freshening up myself. And I went to a bed to have a long-lasting sleep- which wasn’t
long lasting because we had a boat ride in beautiful sea and we had to reach at the
pick-up point at 9’o clock in the morning.
So, on 4th January 2019, we reached at the pick-up point, all other passengers came,
and we all got into the boat safely. We got first seats near the rope with the heavy
anchor. The ride was long little bit due to return time was 4:00 pm. Boatman started
driving boat and after some time we were surrounded by sea water only. Boatman
gave us snack and water. Also, he threw some food to sea birds. They were flying all
over the boat- such an amazing view. I captured photos in my small digital camera
instead of my mobile. It consumes so much battery power and had to keep it alive till
4:00 pm- hectic for me! After another sometimes we were said that dolphins would be
come at surface of the sea, so we’re gazing at all over the sea to see the beautiful
dolphins. We waited, we waited, but finally after few moments we saw them " a
couplet of dark grey dolphins. Then near some rocks, boat was stopped for scuba dive,
snorkelling, swimming. My brother in-law insisted to snorkel, but I was panicked
deeply because I have not learnt swimming yet. He even removed his shoes to
motivate me, still I was in fear to do that. But something kicked my mind and I was
ready to snorkel. I went to the boatman, he gave glasses and I just went in the sea
through a ladder hanged on a boat. Another boatman was there to teach all of us,
obviously I wasn’t only there who didn’t know how to swim. I heard all the instruction
of that boatman but, when it comes to fear I just put efforts at first time, I don’t give
all mine for the first time. Those less efforts also mean to me- gave me motivation.
And finally, after that activity part, we reached at Grand Island beach of the Goa, oh
my god! It was so wonderful! We had a lunch there and we clicked photos again and
there was time to get back in an hour around. We returned, we reached at the resort
around by 5:00 pm. We took showers and freshened up ourselves. We took rest for
some hours and again we reached at the Calangute, that same shack. We seated very
near to the sea and this time some thing was different from last 2 days. There was
arrangement of barbeque, different music and a fire surrounded by sand pile. We were
very near to that pile. We were assuming that what was special at that evening? We
asked a man who works there about our remarks. He said: “We do this every Friday.
And we respect all kinds of people’s demands.” In my mind: “Oh! Yeah your
assumption is right babe!”. There was also arrangement of fire stunts. The man
performed was quite fearless and strong. I recorded his stunts in my mobile though
battery issue. I wanted to gather precious memories in my mobile so that I can cherish
those memories in my life, too. Then fireworks were done. Sky was full of lights, I
wish I could get those nights- again. But moments become memories always. They
can’t be relived, only recalled. We finished our night at that shack and returned to the
resort back. Next day we had a flight to Ahmedabad at 5’o clock in the evening. Still
we had morning to spend time in Goa. We had reaming to see a beach visited every
night by us but not seen in daytime. finally, last visit to that shack was amazing
because I found that beach very clean and clear blue water which I saw first time in
my life. I steeped my legs into the sea, clicked pictures and that’s all. It was time to say
goodbye to that beach shack; that resort; those streets, roads, views; and people there
etc. we rushed to the airport early for two and half hours. We had a lunch even at the
airport. We flew from Goa to Ahmedabad then.
When you love something, you always chase. I love beaches so much, I chased my
obstinance and finally I got there. When I returned, the lust for beaches increased. Lust
for love and other emotions don’t make me happy now, lust for my wishes do make
me happy.
