A Recipe for a Dysfunctional Family

I suck at poetry, so I'm sorry if it's really bad.

1. Take a blunt mom,

    A short-fused dad,

    A trouble-making child,

    One too-small house,

    And a single child that does not belong.

2. Pour in a cup of money shortages,

    An old ex coming back into the picture

3. Put in the oven at 500 degrees,

stand back in case it explodes.

4. Take out after everything goes wrong.

Author's Note

I wrote this for a school assignment two years ago, and I am no better at poetry now than I was then. This is the only one I deemed good enough to put on here, the rest are atrocious.

Is the "trouble making child" also the "single child that does not belong"? If so your ingredient list is redundant and confusing for no reason.

I liked the "ingredient list/recipe" type of presentation though. Some would say it's a little clichéd and overused but I'm not one of them.

It's really pretty decent. Too often people get caught up in rhyming or trying to be too deep and profound. I think poetry is about unconventionally describing life in words without rules anyway you can that makes sense... the more obvious you can make a complicated situation with the fewest amount of words the better the poetry. Usually.

This is still a good write. It's interesting way to express a topic, I haven't seen any recipe poems other than this. It's a nice poem.
