I Appreciate You

I Appreciate You

A Poem by Nisha M.
"

Sometimes, all it takes is to appreciate a friend who does not give up on you at your lowest times.

"

Living is too harsh

But you make it less so,

When I tell myself I’m not good enough,

You tell me that I shouldn’t be my own foe

Tough days, rough nights,

I’m pretty sure we’ve had our fair share of fights

I tell myself I have to fight this world on my own

Yet you won’t let me battle it alone

When everyone is against me,

You’d still be standing on my side

They’d burn and toss me aside,

Push me till the edge of the bridge,

Yet you’d still hold out your hand

And tell me it isn’t the end

You’d tell me ‘I’m here, friend’.

My idiosyncrasies, insecurities

Zero confidence, low-self-esteem

Incredibly pathetic feelings,

Jokes which are all so self-depreciating

I’m a lost cause, with all my lost dreams

Still, you wouldn’t give up on me

When I get tired,

You tell me you’ll get rid of all my thoughts

When I’m miserable,

You’d remind me of the number of demons I’ve fought

My scars, they don’t put you off

My tears, they don’t drown you,

My pain, you’d tell me I shouldn’t be ashamed

I’m human, you’re human, we’re not to blame

We’re all just the same

And when I have nothing left to spare,

You’d bear all the pain for me,

Be my eyes until I can see

Be my pillar until I rise from my fall,

Be my wings until I’m free

I’m sorry I’m not always by your side

But I just want to let you know

Yesterday, today, tomorrow,

I appreciate you, and will always do.
