Second Love

Two people meet each other after their traumatic experience with heartbreaks and divorce.

I remembered it was pouring outside

You insisted on giving me your umbrella

I told you that you needed it more than me

But you asked if I wanted to share instead

And we talked, and talked, for eternity

The rest was history

When I got ill, 

You rushed to see me,

Brought me medicine of every kind

But I don’t think I told you

The reason why I really smiled

Was because you gave me all of your time,

Just to make sure I was fine

We’ve both walked on the wrong path

We were taught the cruel sides of love

Unable to forget regrets of the past

Oh, our journey has been tough

But I have you with me, and you have me with you

We have nothing more to lose 

Let’s find the right way

Let’s love again 

When I cried my hardest then

Thinking I would never make it through the day

You simply held my hand, said nothing

Yet all it took was that silence,

 That silence so comforting 

To wake me up, make me realise I really needed nothing else

Even when I look this ugly, I’m still the only one you see

For even with my demons, you still stood by me

But I don’t think I told you, 

The reason why I made it through the day 

Was because you stayed

I wish we were never hurt in the first place

I wish we never had to be in so much pain

But then if this never happened

I’d probably never get to see your face

Again

We’ve both risked our lives, 

Drowned in our worst mistakes 

Carrying the burdens of yesterday

Struggling to move on from the past 

Only now, I have you with me, and you have me with you

We have nothing more to lose 

Let’s try to find the right way

Let’s love again 

For even when I’m this broken,  

You are still here with me

Let’s try, learn from every lesson

Let’s love again  

But I don’t think I told you

This time, we’re going to walk on the right path

Only me and you

We have nothing more to lose

And I just know that, and I promise for the rest of my life,

This time, it will last.
