Timing

Timing

A Poem by Cole E. Kelty

Timing

Sunlight dancing across the water

A warm breeze blowing through the air

Dreaming of that day in august…

Eighteen, young and naive.

Big brown eyes that could see right through me.

He was easy to talk to and easy to laugh with

Gave great big bear hugs that made you feel safe

Went to lunch together,

just the two of us, twice a week

I thought nothing of it " we were just good friends.

I couldn’t see what was right there.

In front of me all along,

The potential for a great love.

I didn’t realize it then, but he had feelings for me.

Feelings I hadn’t yet felt.

Our timing just wasn’t right.

Nineteen, still young, and a little less naïve,

He still had those same brown eyes and that same embrace

I started to have those feelings.

Back and forth throughout the years

Ups and downs in our lives

Our timing just never worked out.

I loved him, and he loved me, but never the same way at the same time

Hopefully one day we will both realize

The potential that we each have inside of us

The love, excitement, and happiness we could have

But for now…

Moonlight is glistening on the snow

The cold winter wind is everywhere,

And I’m still waiting…
