The Life I Need

The Life I Need

A Poem by the writing writer

Tempting temptress, your plea for me leaves me grounded.

Locked in your stifling grasp, I am sewed to the dust.

Chest down, my head level to the land,

my premier eye can see a glimmer of the sky on the horizon.

I loved Terra Firma and embrace her still,

but with the insurmountable awareness of the beauty that kindles above my back.

I lust for the fire that lingers there and wish to flea to it....

But the earthly cords gouge deep beneath the cage of bones that chambers my heart....

And should I leave for the sky,

I will surely have to rip myself apart....

But I push and cry, and rip and whine,

my efforts moisten the dirt.

The light hits my eyes.

Weakness and relief becomes me....

I die, chest open, my heart facing the sun.
