the lady wore black

the lady wore black

A Poem by Michael Sabino
"

This is from 2009, when I used to write under a female-gendered pseudonym (and often in character). The very minimal use of punctuation is intentional.

hey johnny cadillac

you better start dreamin up a cowboys epitaph right quick
cause come tomorrow
im headed your way
with my dress made of midnight
when youre all whiskey breathd
and pullin your bed sheets
right up to your gooseneck
ill appear with the oozing smile
of a botched abortion
and youre gonna know what ive come for
by the colors drippin down my chin
by the acids runnin from my guts and yellowin up my eyes

and theyre sure as s**t gonna find you
theyll find you when i want them to
and hell
they could find me too
hot bothered and butchered
(once i move through your guts like a glacier
slowly lovingly
with the careful precision
of a death-browned polar bear maw)
theyll see your corpse when it dances
and theyre gonna say

just because it's twitchin
dont mean it aint dead

Love the casual way of speaking mixed with some really juxtaposing and down-right frightening lyrical lines. "Right up to your gooseneck, oozing smile, colors dripping" The words you chose are not the first words that might come to ones mind when describing this macabre threat. But they are your words and that brings much character and voice.

The second part of it doesn't continue with the same value and has a more direct approach, doesn't flow as well but it's brought back by the last couplet and punches one in the jaw. Great piece.
