Ambition

"

Seems no amount of awareness is enough.

Ambition
              by Odin Roark

We ponder
Natural versus man made
We marvel at technology
Remembering youth’s innocence
Adult expectations

We bolt
Futures filled with confusion
The imperative of progress
Move with the flow
Or be left behind

We escape
Wondering about the conundrum
The future unknown
The past unchanged
The present rife with decision

We walk
Trails beneath our feet
Birds above our head
Flowers blanketing the tundra
Wildlife to photograph
Huts for resting

We run
Timeshare development at our heels
Everyone wishing to live beyond
Never knowing long term costs
The kind slowly absorbing our oxygen
Consumption’s methodical genius

“We’ve arrived!”

But where?

Not bad. I think you've used some very good imagery in this without overloading the piece and you've still retained those crucial moments of simplicity which are necessary to tie the whole thing together. I think you don't really need the quotes on the second-to-last line, but it's not like it ruins the piece to have them. Good work.
