Skimming the Edge of a fine soiree

Skimming the Edge of a fine soiree

A Poem by Souladareatease
"

cheers

"

Glimpsing through the window

I saw the gala from a snow drift ledge

Perukes, periwigs and fine paduasoy

mixed and mingled as I madescent

listened in to porcelain elegance

honeyed tongues dripped sweet sugars

warm decadence like light from a candle

held me enrapture, the mind flying

in whirling dervish which trick deem me entry

the door fusilier kept position

flickering flint hovering defenses striking debonair,

his frock coat fell formulating menace

giving me pause in thought to dark cellars

but I flushed this fear with nip of spirit

proclaiming a title which fit my visage

and in the old ways he announced

"his Lordship Peregrine Gall"

leads upon scenery greens took awe

in bright eye offerings

to regale me with crystalline prose

if same exchange would divvy my talk

then I knew well, heart in hearth

What an enchanting tale...to be on the outside looking in and to find your way to the inside in the end. This is a good metaphor for life. We so often are on the outside looking in; fear of the possibilities, fear of change, fear of being judgeed, but often if we allow ourselves to let go, suddenly we are the one on the inside looking out.

Very clever wordplay and language choice...a little humor mixed with a deeper meaning. Always a good combination in my book.
