A Poem by Makayla

Have you felt true fear?
The kind that effects every motion,
every choice that you make

Being too afraid to be who
you were made to be
covering up
so wandering eyes don't see

Screams echo as you pass
on the street
people licking their lips
like your a piece of meat

This the norm,
Society's expectation
of the males of this
crooked generation

Questioning yourself,
shifting the blame
wondering why,
things had to change

a few years ago,
you were laughing, running
careless,
free

now you're sleeping with boys,
even though you're barely fifteen

love and lust
there's a difference,
try both out
you can pick a preference

but don't just give away,
the gift of woman,
to any guy with smooth words
respect is earned, not given

don't shame what you are,
take pride and embrace
all the strength and struggle
that it takes

to be a woman

What an empowering poem. Nice reminder of how we should not be hard on ourselves and take pride for who we are. Great work.
