The Minimum of Desire

The Minimum of Desire

A Poem by Omar
"

Because wild grass sprouts. Uninvited.

"

I refuse I refuse,

I refuse.

The minimum of desire--

I refuse.

I will not be, I cannot be,

Any longer,

The wild grass that sprouts uninvited, the weeds

And fiery wildlife, the wild

Green anonymous, a bright green

Bag of ugly

Fighting for its birth

Right

(Birthright!)

The minimum of survival

To reach out to the sun
In autistic flails

Birthright, I tell you.

I refuse. I am not to be the one

Dwarfed by pressures of the atmosphere

Minimized

I will not settle

Settle

Like grains of sand, settle into--

A bed. An indigo bed

The depths of the sea

The bed of the sea

And the sea of a bed--

The depths of a bed

My darling. The minimum does not console me.

It does not. I am not consoled.

Never--it never consoles me.

Because--anything, anything can want

And anything can desire.

Even walls would want

And walls would desire,

Not tonight.

I savor the ice

That cakes my skin

Underneath the scarlet

Disco light,

I will not be, the minimum

Of desire
