Self Love & Self Respect.

It's ironic how we validate our self

by others.

If they like or love us

that means the whole world to us.

If people hate us

that really gets us down

and is upsetting.

When really we should be

loving ourselves for us

and liking our own personalities

because we are a nice person

in general.

But not to the point we are selfish

and mean towards others.

It's finding the right balances.

Of self-love and self-respect.

It is so true. We are always told to first love ourselves before we can love others. But, many loves themselves too much that they become conceited and causes more harm not only to themselves but also others. I totally agree, there should be a balance between self-love and self-respect.

I used to be concerned about how other people perceived me when I was younger. As I've got older, I care much less. It's take me or leave me. Many will feel as you do Dawn. Your poem has a universal theme. I work on the basis that you can't please everyone all of the time.

We have to be us . do what we like doing
Go and eat what suits us - not them
