Grandfather's gift of joy.

Grandfather's gift of joy.

A Poem by Onlyme

My friend's grandfather is
the typical granddad, he is
old, cuddly and sweetheart.

We found out a few years ago.
He applied to be a volunteer
Father Christmas at the local
hospital for the sick kids.
Who could not go home
for Christmas to be with family

It's a tradition he does without fail.
Every year now. Dressing up.
And giving presents local charities
have donated for these children in a hospital.
And he arrives dressed as Father Christmas
with his large red rucksack to the hospital
wards.

And goes around the children's beds.
Talking to them. And wishing them
a Merry Christmas and giving them some
gifts. All addressed to the children
by name.

Sometimes the parents are there with
cameras taking photographs of their
son or daughter with Santa.

It seems to make them better the idea
of Christmas and Santa Claus coming
to see them all. And spending time
with them all.  And at the end of the visit to
all the children.

They all sit around A large Christmas Tree
in one ward and sing Christmas carols.
And have cake, jelly and lemonade if the children
are allowed to eat properly. And of course
Father Christmas gets some too.
