SHOCKED QUARTZ

SHOCKED QUARTZ

A Poem by R J Askew

I am the verse that blocks your urge
To end this pain that is your life
I can't erase the woes you've felt
Yet here I stand, old obdurate
This age of adamantine will
To make you blink, perchance to think
Each life comprises hidden realms
New ways to be, fresh things to see
That pain is not a permanence
Nor one that you must die to lance

I am the line that blocks your urge
To end your life with death to merge
I am the word that brings you back
To love, the verb, your future track

Ive been MIA and prior to that intermittent here - this is new to me. Sadly not a new post. But that last stanza especially speaks to me. Life has been horrid for a few years. But the writing. I desire to write again.

Your writing has always been 'up there' with the greats, those last four lines are a blend of philosophy, courage and inspiration. What comes before has sadness running on all four legs as if running for life. Perhaps you are the armour for someone precious or indeed for those needing protection. Whatever, this his is more than a moving piece of writing, sir.

That last stanza. I cannot tell you how much it affected. A brilliant, intelligent, beautiful write.

Writing, to many, is a very cathartic process. To me, it's life. I can't "not write" any more than I can "not breathe". I could try but it wouldn't last long. Keep writing, breathe in, breathe out. And try to find some happiness wherever you can. Bless, F.

Very evocative opening...urge to block the suicidal thoughts. As much a love song, as a plea, your words ring true and the reader can only respond as you wish...hearts opening to life

great work RJ

Thanks Ken e ... the subject is still alive, though still troubled
There is hope in the line part “that blocks your urge.” That there exists such verses may save lives as well as futures that otherwise would not come to pass. Thanks for sharing. Frederick.

Cheers Frederick...it would be really great were the words to work that way, even once!
Good morning RJ,
Oh gosh what a sad poem and so well written... Makes me think of many things... mainly suicide..
We wish that we might be the reason to make one stop.......
I am the line that blocks your urge
To end your life with death to merge
I am the word that brings you back
These lines I reread several times... very very strong emotional lines..

The last stanza in particular stood out.
"I am the line that blocks your urge"...

I sense a sad soul who needs a friend to remind them that they have much to offer.
