 Fields....

   Lavender fields fill my visions of you ...

   longing your safe arrival home to me,

   knowing our love will remain always true;

   stand, watching as tall waves drift out to thee.

   Hard rain appeared at once with no warning;

   my worries of you become uncontrolled …

   taking deep breaths as night becomes morning,

   watching as the moon changes yellow to gold.

   Suddenly, from a distance boat sails appear;

   now, I yell to the sky, "Dear God, thank You!"

   His boat swaying about, as without fear …

   my true love is saved 'gainst dark ocean spew.

   Kisses tell my story from long ago,

   when a sailor left for the open sea ...

   never knowing if my true love would show,

   awaiting patiently for only he.

Lisa so glad to have heard from you. This poem speaks of patience rewarded, prayers answered, love returned. Taken at face value it reads wonderfully with great rhyme and rhythm but it speaks deeper as a metaphor for all those who await fearing the worst to be rewarded in the end for their patience and fidelity. Nicely done

Here it is still before 5 A.M.. I've coffee and sight of day's break. Thoughts and life's experience whirl and transcend their whens. At this moment, I dwell on ship's times and roiling seas. Nor'easter's footprints on passageway walls and such. The power and majesty of the deep gray-greens.

As one of the young fools of my time - I ventured where angels thought first. Strange how most "adventurers" weren't old or experienced enough to recognize "Love" but still had such emotional bonds to draw them back from whence they came. For me, home was always where I took off my "hat" and caught a breath before continuing. People went out of their way to make it that way ...because - they could, I guess.

I always appreciated Norse myths - for their reality. And the "explorers' spirit" and wonder was a DRAW not a hindrance. I've walked "miles" in so many others' shoes and actually listened within their breaths as moments continued (and not).

So many live within their fields' dreams - so I don't knock it or them - I just smile softly and continue on.

Life seems to do that...
Yes, the sea can be cruel and many a love has awaited patiently the safe return of her significant other. If you live by the coast, there are always stories of sailors being lost at sea. This is penned beautifully Lisa. The lavender opening gets the whole poem off to a very fragrant start. Lovely lines.

A lovely piece on a lover waiting on her sea bound beau to return safely.

' Cross rolling fields of lavender
and seas of deepest blue
my love will warm a bed to big
when this not shared with you....

I liked this one. My father was a sailor in WWII. I'm certain my mother felt such anxiety when he sailed away to war in the Pacific, knowing the dangers and waiting...waiting. After several engagements with the Japanese he was injured and took some shrapnel in his ankle. They had to replace the the entire ankle at Bethesda Naval Hospital so he was shipped home to the states and that was the end of war for him. Mother used to sing, "I'm thinking tonight of my blue eyes, who is sailing far over the sea..." She thought dad had blue eyes for a long time. They were actually sea foam green; rather appropriate for a sailor. :) I enjoyed your poem. Tenderly, F.
