A Poem by Katelyn

At sixteen years old,

I did not know what love was,

Though I knew that I felt something amazing

When you looked at me.

At seventeen years old,

I thought love was pain,

When you looked at her,

With lusting eyes, and a drooling tongue,

So I gave you everything.

At eighteen years old,

I loved you hard,

And you loved me harder.

I thought love was physical,

Firey, and passionate.

At nineteen years old,

I knew that love

Was something more than sex,

Something more than jealousy.

It was not trustless, or accusatory.

Love is soft, and love is generous.

And though the love I was given

Was painful at times, and almost unreal

The love I gave was strong and pure.

And what a beautiful thing it is,

To have loved someone at all.
