Spoken Words

Spoken Words

A Poem by Nina C Palmer
"

When honest words are met with silence

"

What is a word, could it reach the stars?

Will it find its way even to the skies

For if it were composed just so

It could answer thought filled eyes

A word, you see, cannot be

But a sound formed by tongue

Its effect has such power

Whether whispered or sung

And as it leaves my gentle lips

Will it fly to your inattentive ear?

Or will it glide off your rigid shoulder

And find its way back to here

Returning to its earnest speaker

Now covered in bitten frost

For if it falls on deafened ears

Do not believe it to be forever lost

For those resounding words

Would be so dearly held with shame

Inside my open wounded heart

The very heart, from which it came

Very beautiful. Words have such power. Therefore, it's a shame that so many people seem to take words for granted. Written words can bleed inspiration if you want it to. Spoken words can heal if you "will" it to. Unspoken words are like dreams never lived.

I'm a huge fan of your poetry...I'm sure you know this, Nina...words are powerful especially in communication setting...I Love how you emote those feelings. Nicely done.

I sure loved that poem ... it touched my heart so easily for it could've been written for me .. how many times have I tried to say something .. I speak the words and find them ending up unheard as I pass unseen .. indifference is cruel .. especially when you speak your heart out and you end up talking to a heart that lost the sense of hearing you .... Loved you choice of each word .. as if the place for each sentence is marked by the correct word for the meaning. Wonderful read thank you again.
You sure are talented and your way with the rhyming is good. Thanks for sharing .. at least with us you know your words won't be bitten in frost ... YOU SHALL BE HEARD ... so let that heart of yours speak to us .... I want to hear its pain and joy ....... simply because mine needs to be heard to.

You're most welcome
I loved this poem, and how you make this little process of speech and ignorance vivid and significant, almost personifying the act. Great defiance used here and use of word! :)
