The Dance

The Dance

A Poem by Nina C Palmer
"

When young I was told in a relationship you take one step forward and two back, like a dance. I now realize the dance must be a partnership of lead and follow.

"

I danced the dance I was told I must

I bit my lip at the sight of lust

I gave myself with love and trust

I danced the dance I was told I must

Suitors came like a merry go round

They left in the night without a sound

To their reserve my heart was bound

Until I fell from the merry go round

My heart became cold as a winter’s night

All I could muster I did so with fight

I lashed out at every suitor in sight

And fought back my heart into the night

I gave up on love and ran away

Though my heart longed for the day

A love would come and he would stay

And hold my hand and slowly sway

Back then forth, and side to side

He’d hold my hand and gently guide

Across the room to music we’d glide

My head to his shoulder-- I his bride.

Well thought out and executed. A fine rhyming poem worthy of applause.

Those dances are like a right of passage; something we all go through until we find the perfect partner.

It's strange isn't it, how a first love, almost always becomes no more than memory.

Beccy.

A memory you cannot seem to loose. I find it funny that the first love is NEVER forgotten.
I can relate to this poem. A lot of broken dreams in regards to love, but still maintaining hope someway, somehow

What would he be Nina? To you, an equal half of this partnership.....what would this other half's identity be?

So Deep, Nina...I was in emotionally abusive relationship many moons ago...Right, I'm a dude...but check it...I was young and naive thinking the fairy tale thing...settle down with who you feel is the right one...well, I was with a Scorpio woman and Maaaan...Intense...I won't delve into it but it got to the point where I cheated and then she cheated...losing a baby...drama stuff like that...A Lot of fighting that it could been the rage of a rock song...I learned so many painful lessons them that I still carry with me...and when my heart was broken I broke many hearts after that which I know is stupid now...I try to get back that innocence yet how can I thaw a jaded heart? I keep trying...and your poem reminded me of my pain and naïveté. Lovely write, thank you for sharing.
