To Kill a Bird

To Kill a Bird

A Poem by Alexis L. Thompson

To kill a bird

that's mocking me.

Is it real?

Can it be?

As I stand

under this tree.

And watch the

bird that's mocking me.

I grab a stone

and wait quietly

as the bird

is mocking me.

I kiss the stone

and let it free

towards the bird

who's mocking me.

Now the bird

lays silently.

t'was the bird

that was mocking me.

Great write! Love this poem. When I was about 15 or 16, I was out hunting and a bird pooped on me. I shot it. This took me back to that moment, which I had all but forgotten. Good job.
