The Magnificent Mask

The Magnificent Mask

A Poem by pastelroses

This poem has many meanings but the main inspiration for this piece, is to describe that even though a person may seem happy, they may actually be dealing with a mental illness.

The Magnificent Mask

She places her magnificent mask on her fragile face,

So,

Her sapphire eyes will sparkle seductively,

Her somber smile will shimmer spiritedly,

And her luscious lips will laugh loudly,

So,

She can carefully cloak,

Cautiously cover,

And preciously protect,

The wicked wrist wounds that worship her flaming flesh,

Finally freeing her from feeling numb.

The secret scars submerged inside of her searing skin,

Swiftly sinking into her brittle blood.

The venomous voices frantically flying in her head,

Excitedly encouraging the beastly battle with the blade.

The suffocating shadow seeping into her soul,

Terribly turning her manic mind into a dull dungeon.

The frosted fog framing her battered body,

Painfully poisoning the luminous light lingering in her brain.

The wild wave that washes over her limp limbs,

Crudely crushing her brittle bones into porcelain pieces.

The agonizing ache absorbing into her sunken seams,

Furiously forcing her to feverishly fall asleep for hours,

So,

She can take off her magnificent mask

So,

She doesn't have to pretend to

Sparkle seductively,

Smile spiritedly,

Or laugh loudly.

I love your choice of language in this in both the alliteration and the repetition. It's almost lyrical. The sharp contrast between the mask and her self underneath it really speaks to me.

It's great. I loved the choice of words with much alliteration.

You've done well on this piece. Your choice of words and how you chose to present them shows that you worked hard on this, while making it seem effortless. Good work.
