we've let ourselves down

we've let ourselves down

A Poem by We May Well Be The Ones

why do we say that we are free
we have racism, wars, border police
our lust has blinded us from peace
what kind of people are we

how can we say our future's bold
we have violence, drugs, a heart ice cold
we rewrite history books meant for new fools
so much for truth

so I stand
to tear these walls down
to end this hatred now
are we all cowards

why must we cage, torture and preach
raping our youth with christian beliefs
washing our brains to know what we think
are we not trustworthy

so I stand
to speak my voice
to sound my noise
we all have a choice
