Bonnie the Bohemian

Bonnie the Bohemian

A Poem by PatiencePoems
"

This is a poem I wrote in creative writing class for my grandmother.

"
Every life event
was her inspiration
for poetry.

Both large and small
received a few lines
on a random piece of paper
written by her delicate fingers
to be treasured for years.

From a child's death
to a grandchild's birth.

The history of my family
could be found and traced
through each scrap of paper.

Even a move
across the Pacific
was worthy of a poem.

I remember growing up,
sitting with my grandmother,
drinking tea and honey
at midnight
when a little girl's energy
could not be put to sleep,
and an aged woman struggled
to rest her worried soul.

She is a true artist,
whose talent was hidden
behind nine children
and an alcoholic husband.

Her grandchildren
became her adoring art collectors.

Each little girl was presented
with hand sketched paper dolls,
and tales of love
near little cottages by a stream.

Each little boy received
a pencil sketched picture
of the cottage to inspire
the imagination of a child.

This is my first draft. I have been told the end needs to be worked a bit more. Suggestions are welcome.

This is an excellent poem, with a lot of fondness and affection, packed into a very well written poem. good structure, simple yet complex in the emotions it evokes, a good piece of literature.
