Performance - Discovery Of A Corpse

Performance - Discovery Of A Corpse

A Poem by Patrick Davies
"

In the old empty theater, in the middle of the night, a corpse has been found...

"

Under the glare of a spotlight,

In the terror

Frozen.

"Did the curtains mask your face?"

Ropes droop near the brick-work

In a back stage.

Fat actor, in costume

And makeup

"Since tonights performance?"

"Did you watch him here? Perform here?

Watch him perform here?"

From an empty seat -

Empty room -

Echo.

Framed, staged, hanging...

Echo.

Face-paint, "childish,"

Not caked, freshly applied.

His encore,

Audience,

A banquet.

"Are you still here

Appluading?" -

In awe, in dread,

In orgasm...

Beaming

Blindingly from the gallery

At me,

Like the glaring spotlights.

This could be taken two ways. One, an actual body found. Two, an actor bombing and dying on stage in his performance. Like it. Well written. Great visuals also.

About
Tell you? About me? But what of the consequences? Oh God, the things they could do to my life if I handed it over... A background from which they could merge into the foreground - a window, an opening.. more..
