Screams From A Lower Floor

Screams From A Lower Floor

A Poem by Patrick Davies
"

The apartment building. Am I alone? Has every one died in their cells? Did no one else hear that noise from below!?

"

Screams from a lower floor

Echo and quiver to

My room which turns so cold.

I shiver in my bed.

Into the corridor

Frantically looking round.

Now that all has silenced

My mind assumes the worst.

Piping creaks as I sweat,

Distresses my heart beat.

Lights from above my head

Flicker. I start to run.

Stairs to the lower floor

Twist, as if warning me.

Black waits at the bottom.

The screams begin again.

One more step down to go

Deep into heavy dark.

My hands cling to the wall -

But I’m dragged feet first.

Woah, this poem really gave me chills! A fantastic horror poem! I haven't seen many like this! I really loved and enjoyed it, even though it was so creepy! The concept of it is really clever, I like the way you've used a modern setting with a gothic style of writing, the two contrast and combine wonderfully. You've built up the tension to the very end so well, it really is like a horror story.

A wonderfully dark piece. You should defiantly enter this in some competitions!

Blue and green should never be seen Mr.Davies - I suppose that's some of that there fancy symbolism I've heard so much about from them shining college boys. Brilliant, a horror story condensed into a poem. Bravo, pip-pip, ships ahoy and all them other fancy words I could list to tell you well done once again Mr.D.

Tell you? About me? But what of the consequences? Oh God, the things they could do to my life if I handed it over... A background from which they could merge into the foreground - a window, an opening.. more..
