Heat Wave

Heat Wave

Heat Wave

Temperature so high

The heat can be seen in the air

It makes you sweat even to breathe

Children cool off

At the fire hydrant

Mothers fan themselves

Sitting on the stoop

The young ones go on

Killing one another

As tempers rise

With the thermometer

Senselessly they lie

Face down on the hot pavement

Bullets in their young flesh

Life blood spilled on the sidewalk

It contrasts the innocence of young children in the heat of the city with the killing of youth one against the other.
