Youth

Youth

A Poem by Jessica

Rain pounds the window as you sleep,

You wake to the drip drip of the hole in your roof,

Getting up is the beginning of the pain,

Sleep seems forever away as you get out of your comfortable bed,

You check on your kids,

Watching them sleep you long for your youth,

Remembering the summer sun kiss your skin as you swam in the lake,

Silence snaps you back into reality,

The reality you try to escape everyday,

As you wander the hall you being questioning yourself,

Reaching your room you stare at yourself in the mirror,

You being to wonder why did he leave me?

The longer you stare you start to seeing the old and wrinkled skin,

As you crawl into bed defeated you wipe your tears,

Watching the bucket fill with rain you drift into sleep,

Beep, beep, beep alerts you to the morning,

Opening your eyes you realize your nightmare isn't over,

It is only beginning as you are waking up to the drip drip of your life ending.
