Dictionary Dude

Dictionary Dude

A Poem by Kimberly Davis
"

What happens to someone with a vice for words.

"

Dictionary Dude sat at his desk to find a word.

He didn’t care how long or short or if it was absurd.

His daily mission was to write and to a story give

a breath of life in verbal form, from noun to adjective.

Acclimated to this task he sat for hours most days

spawning thrills inside his mind for plots that gave way

to awesome treks of verbiage within the words he chose;

each turning page a catalyst in the escapade of prose.

Poignant phrase, poetic verse leapt free from his pen!

Insatiably he searched his brain time and time again

for that certain word or grand idea to catapult the action.

Expressions found, he wrote them down with bold satisfaction.

Plural words ingested in a world that time defied

where nouns and verbs obeyed him and the characters complied.

It's finished.  Stylus down he leaned back in his chair,

scrutinized his work, ran his fingers through his hair.

He smirked at the syntax there, laced with meanings deep

scribed on paper, birthed by him, original, unique.

His famished brain satisfied with literary food

he bid good night. But he’d return, this Dictionary Dude.

This is a clever and amusing tale, told through a skillful selection of sentences. The line length misleads the reader at first, appearing as it does to be a piece of prose. But the carefully-constructed lines and near-flawless rhymes reveal a poem of unique characteristics.

Well done!

back to read this fun, well crafted work of creativity, perhaps dwell on a few points to ponder,
the sentence wrapping rhyme form form is contemporary, as well as the down to earth title,
you must have grown up in california, is what i artistically see most in this piece, the vibe,
the passionate beat, all has a certain rhythm of ease, i agree, such characteristics, i think
words i loved, acclimated, verbiage, spawning, catylst, escapade, and tylus, and syntax, and
many more uniquely playing words you carefully chose to capitalize each sentence, each
independent thought, adding to the overall structure, the meaning, always a great reread kim,

kim, your wording is stellar as well as depthfully charged with absolute diction,
regarding the effective clarity and placement for specific rhythm, the rhyme
form is as equally captivating in this regards, passionate, as flowing metaphorical
eloquence, i enjoyed the aspect of reading and studying words, because it defines
a writer's solidarity, "dictionary dude" the imaginative landscape of emotional
knowldge is energetic, the high paced intention is brilliantly defined, you did
a comprehensive job in detailing the anticipations, symbolyzing the abstract
quality, an admixure of emtoions accompanying desire of challenge, loved this! mike
