SOME NIGHTS

SOME NIGHTS

A Poem by Peter Rogerson
"

Some nights we dream, don't we?

"

In the twilight

Of this wasteland

Where my pastel fancies roam,

In the darkness

Of the journey

I’ll return to this, my home.

There the Satan

Of my nightmares

And the bringer of my dread,

He the monster

Crushed by hoping

Let the hero rise instead…

And I’m sleeping

Peaceful, breathing,

Empty dreams and loving heart,

She’s beside me

Smiling night-time,

Hold my hands, we’ll never part.

Stars are shining,

Glistening, twinkling,

On the creatures of my day,

Evil nonsense

Dark and shady

Slinks like shadows far away.

Here you've presented a juxtaposition between dark thoughts/feelings/dreams & those more lighthearted. I'm not really sure if this is conjuring up anything in my mind about what these images symbolize, but you've done a great job of expressing the journey in original-sounding notes with a somewhat surprising description of this journey thru the night.

This verse was given birth by me trying to describe a particularly dark dream to my wife.

Aha! That explains it! Very nice description of your night journey.
Imagery and feelings of love- so very well penned and presented before the reader. Your lover sleeping beside you- the best feeling, isn't it It can drive away all sadness, all stress, all your worries and all your dark thoughts. This is a nice piece to read with good use of rhyming.

I believe that the more emotional poetry can be enhanced by rhyming. Thanks for your review.
