The Desert

The Desert

A Poem by philology

When you enter the desert you are alone.

The shattered dunescape shifts only when you do

waves emerging and crashing with each

step (the desert is like the sea.)

You will never make it rain,

but once a year the sky will convulse, rip itself apart

and the storm will crash down on you

a holy, scouring cataclysm.

You can make the desert growl

in a voice that heralds the fall of mountains.

the dust will envelope you

etch the desert into your skin, your bones.

This is the desert’s vengeance:

no one who enters leaves.

I like how you give the desert a certain theme in this one...as the story unravels in the lines...
