Another Day

Another Day

The lives of two became one became two.

Another Day

Daylight seems almost too bright now.

The colors it nurtures

The sounds it brings

It tires them.

No longer do they find joy

In what was once a quiet morning.

They found a place to sit,

Solitary in the dancing park,

On a bench far from others,

Far from life.

Their hands are touching

Not like they used to.

Skin against skin,

Feels colder than before.

They seem to have run out

Of things to talk about.

They wonder whether the silence

Is comfortable or too loud.

One sighs at the years,

That have so cruelly drained them,

And looks across at the other.

Their gazes meet

But not in understanding,

And the smiles they exchange

Are amiable but strange.

They sit together,

Hand in hand,

Growing apart.
