The Zone

The Zone

A Poem by Steven Pingel
"

A poem about imposing the "friend zone" upon oneself with a particular friend for years.

"

One can't elevate, nor ever grow,
If he can't learn to let things go.
Drop the darkness, crippling fear
Of one lowly person coming near.
Think of good times, few as they were,

Instead of constrained feelings for her.

They were held, always, aloof for a reason.
Their release would be the greatest treason.

So smile at her and say not a word;

Remembering that anything else is absurd.
Swallow the pity and self-deprecation,

Feeling her presence as great elation.
