Carolina in the Combat Zone

Carolina in the Combat Zone

A Poem by Denny
"

Maybe there was a Bar-B-Q, I can't remember. This is a painted poem.

"

    a black thing

    a white thing

a down home thing

Carolina calls her children

     black in Boston

   on a Saturday nite

p.s. The words remind me of the lyrics to Basin Street, "where all the white and the black folk meet"

I love the painting. Where and when was that?

I was just looking at a painting of a place in the Combat Zone by Edward Burra: http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/dc/e8/3e/dce83e14431985792b76473ee602c90b.jpg

You know the sailors and the line " black in Boston" is a real powerful thing to me.
It conjures up lots of things this city has been, lots of saturday nights I've seen.
And I love the painting.
Nice work
