Waking Up

Waking Up

A Poem by Shawna

Here I am
Down on my knees again
Crying
And feeling like I'm dying again
The stars are aligned
And now we know
We wasted all our time
Have to let go
The peace our hearts begged for
Washed away through our blood
Tried to gain more
But knew we never could
Here we are
Losing our minds again
Screaming
And falling deeper into the sin again
The eclipse is almost over
Leaving us to the sun
The earth only gets colder
The more we try to run
Nothing left but dust
But that too has blown away
The wind stole my trust
My heart chose to stay
There they are
Crawling toward us again
Witnessing
And watching us writhe again
The grass grew too tall
For us to see the ground
They seen the rain fall
But didn't make a sound
Crashing and burning
Changed their perspective
Set the wheels turning
Thoughts so collective
While we stand alone
Seeing our worlds crumble again
Trying
And sighing, our words become humble again
Thought it'd bring us together
But it only tore us apart
Left only with a whisper
Heart to heart
Hear our bodies scream
And our souls die
The end of your dream
Made us say our last goodbyes
