My Narrow Streets

My Narrow Streets

A Poem by PJ

Through my narrow streets I wander,
  A myriad of avenues,
Profound the corners where I ponder,
  Meet not the roads I choose.
Descents too easy - all I squander
  So thus a mountain there accrues;
Down my narrow streets I wander
  And yet an uphill life ensues.

Is this some idyllic isle?
  Did a winding dust track draw
Me down towards my self-denial,
  Where silent, passing time can roar?
Lead on! lead on! - sweet rising mile,
  Let the mountain reassure,
This is some idyllic isle
  Still so much I must explore.
