The Severing

The Severing

A Poem by PJ

I'll ask for nothing more now,
My hopes are hopes undone,
I'll close my thoughts upon this night
And lie easy in the sun.
Cast aside the fruitless flowers,
All the days that passed for hours,
And what was mine but was not ours
Maybe Time will take.

For when I looked upon the lake,
I saw a ripple begin,
And then a wave crashed over me
And seemed to draw me in.
As you were strong, so I am weak,
And see here, what steep sides I make,
Of such a small and shallow lake,
But I'll climb out now

Dry out under some Spring bough,
And watch time drink upon,
As water in the desert sun,
And nothing's left to think upon.
Only the traces we may see,
But do not resurrect in me,
The ocean's wide complexity:
It's too deep for me.
