City Lights

City Lights

A Poem by p.kuhl
"

Companion to "black lace"

"
high heels gouge her eyes out
to save her from this misery
she's writing lowercase letters
to estranged lovers in stranger cities
embracing her dying mother's
tendency to pretend to think "pretty"
of their unbeveled teenage faces
most people have noses at least, though oddly
they vanish from our old photos
like vibrancy and current wrinkles
her face haunts like waiting
for a lobotomy, like tyrants and symbols
and those electric nauseous city lights
that drag you out on Friday nights

Those lines stood out to me the most...not taking away from the rest all together they work. It's sad but not make me cry sad...more pity that evokes sadness

Bold, not dull, not predictable. Very much alive...
