Stairway to Heaven

Stairway to Heaven

A Poem by p.kuhl

The successful man is careful
not to hit the creak
in the seventh step as he ascends
with perfect posture and a hand
on the banister. I am not
as slick, I arpeggiate
with lunges up two, three
at a time, no time
to appreciate the thick wood
precipice below my bare feet

and if I should slip from this brown spiral palisade
let them know I chose to lose a few teeth.

Great metaphor used here. Your vocabulary choice is stellar. I could picture you running up the stairway...enjoying every second of life on the climb. Good imagery. Lydi**

arpeggiate may be the most perfect word that i have ever been surprised to find in a poem, i love that
