man versus puddles

man versus puddles

A Poem by plainme

never walked straight up

always stuck out of the group

the move, dragging your legs

shoulders slumped, head bowed down

as if looking not to sink

yet, sticking out of the canopy

though hiding in a mess of dark bristles

on the streets

still slumped

avoid the attention

when someone looks longer

panic.

don’t look at me

I have nothing

leave, the penetration

the gaze scorches my inside

flick of flint in a field in drought

why, you ask

for I know that you’ll leave, one day

I close, and crawl into my shell

hope to be forgotten

in fear

I walk the park

with my head down

avoiding puddles

cause if I fall

I’ll never be back again
