THE DARK, THE WINE AND THE SONG.

Nothing commits to love more than a sad song
That soft sung heart ballad
Which comforts a lonely wine’s sip
And a single tear
Which drips the memory of such a dear time

You play the words in my mind
That your voice has me in imagination’s grip
I listen to the soundless melody
And see your shadow’s face
In a framed melancholia of gold’s hurting
That both eyes now cry

And the wine perfumes the dark
While the song softens my night’s sharpness
Till diffusion discolours the harsh picture
And pastel shades console me
Such is the song, the night and the wine

But I drink to my knowledge of knowing you
A raised glass to such a long goodbye

This life of night-times
Of a song, a black night and red wine
One last glass to this night

One more time…
I will play the song so I see you again
To feel your sweet softness invade my dreams
So the wine I sip is the red of your lips
The dark of night, all black passion
While the song becomes a sensual theme of love
In which we played as variation

I will love you...
Till the music dies and the song is sung

Oh, what a powerful tribute to love this is, Ron. The longing is intense and the romance is delicate. "I drink to my knowledge of knowing you" is a line I will not soon forget. Some people make our lives fuller when we meet them....even if nothing more ever transpires. Heartfelt poetry. Lydi**
