Payback time

Payback time.

 

Perchance to sleep and not to dream

I would I could but I can not.

Dreams in a never ending stream

Fate hath decreed to be my lot.

My conscience won’t let me forget

That I have acted selfishly

In doing things I now regret.

Sends evil dreams to punish me.

I long to sleep but do not dare

I know not what dreams lie in wait

My punishment is hard to bear.

But my regrets came far too late.

Now at long last I’ve come to know

You must reap what you chose to sow.

You're forever creating these technically, heart-sound poems - and I've never known you to fall down in any way, Ivor. The content is a little sad here, so hope it's because the poem calls for it and not your way of thinking! :)
