The Escape

The Escape

A Poem by Ravinder Malhotra
"

Theme: Marriage

"

She yearns now his tender kiss
From behind the facade of marital bliss
To sense the rapture it could bring

Her passion stiffled by a wedding ring

Her eyes appear now famished
In a life contract of ill-design
The honeymoon long ago vanished
From her fate she cannot resign

The eyes speak what she cannot tell
The mind conceals what the spirit knows well
Her smiles disperse the heart's desire
She holds back tears that the eyes conspire

Chaste thoughts gradually wither away

Open a cage to let lust hold sway
Held incarcerated but now ceased to be
Softly whisper hymns of infidelity

Alone she shivers in the cold
No one to have, no one to hold
Yesterday's vows a mere illusion
Torment her of a paranoid delusion

The vows weathered stormy seas
She steered through all for feelings like these

Till death do us part for better or for worse
Hollow promises echo a nuptial curse

Her craving lips and throbbing heart
Seek to flee to the start
If she could rid it with a spell
And escape to him from a living hell
