Where goes the Atheist ?

Where goes the Atheist ?

A Poem by Ravinder Malhotra

Where goes the Atheist?

Here lies Anna the Atheist

All dressed, nowhere to go

A life on her terms she lived

She lived long ago

She died a full 102,

Of an infected lung

Grieved her five generation folks

Only the ‘Good Die Young’

Her father Fiddle Jonathan

Died the 7th of June

The village piper to his friends

Went early out of tune

The brother was a wealthy lawyer

His epitaph, Sir John Strange

“Here lies an honest lawyer “

Now isn't that very strange

Her sister a miserly spinster

Each penny fondly keep

If cash you are in want of some

Go dig some six feet deep

But Richard wished her as his wife

Addressed her ‘My Sweet Manna’

Till the Lord convey consent

The Devil wed him Anna

Under the tree she finally rests

Not age that took its toll

But the skin of a banana

And that is what I’m told

“Remember as you pass me by

Like you are now, so was I

As I am now, you too shall be

Soon you too shall follow me”

This on her tomb her words inscribed

To which someone in jest replied

“To follow an Atheist who would consent

Until they know which way you went? ” ………………. © Ravinder Malhotra 2009
