CANOE LAKE, ALGONQUIN PARK

CANOE LAKE, ALGONQUIN PARK

A Poem by Mike Keenan

CANOE LAKE, ALGONQUIN PARK

I daydream of damp, early-morning mist

as paddles dip and pull

a swift canoe that glides

amidst soft swirls

into clear shallows,

a beaver cache of birch

strewn randomly below

and alert loons, now wary,

stampede the microcosmic minnows

that dart amidst the green.

We are baptized in this lake,

my magic mirror and psychiatry,

muse of free association clouds, trees, rock,

mud, fire and flame,

a dream of fluid roots,

the primal flood when I began.

Sounds like a wonderfully atmospheric place, Mike. A place that obviously has been a part of your life since birth and baptism. Your true home, in a way. Our roots, the place we truly belong, always remain special and close to our hearts, no matter how far we roam. And your poem shows us how special this place is to you. I enjoyed your description and imagery here. ❤
